Happy Yellow

Susan challenged us to use the happy colour yellow as dominant colour on a one layer card
The little sentiment is a stamp from Studio g and was stamped first. I created the surrounding pattern with Artemio stamps using yellow Heyda ink. Happy Crafting, Petra.

Tailor's Dummy as Home Decor

The Home Decor challenge for OLW was quite fun apart from me not having any home decor stamps like lamps, chairs, etc (lol) ... but we have a tailor's dummy in one room of our house for decoration and I have a stamp for it!

Inspiring Minds

Another great OLW challenge from Jennifer and a bit of a tough one as well: use any of the images seen here as the inspiration for the card ... colours, layout or the 'feel' of the chosen card can be the basis. It took me quite a while to decide which one to choose

I used a free stamp from Craft Stamper magazine stamping it repeatedly on plain white card and coloured it with Koh-i-noor pencils. The sentiment is an Elzybells stamp. Petra.

Christmas Kindness

A warm and useful purpose goes with the One Layer Wednesday challenge for this week: Christmas Kindness. Susan encouraged us all to create a one layer card and send them to Rhonda. Rhonda and her friends make cards which they for the ND State Penitentiary inmates to send to their families and friends ... you can read the full story on Susan's OLW blog
It is a little white square card stamped with Elzybells and Little Claire stamps and coloured with Koh-i-noors. For the Christmas shine I couldn't resist to ass a little bit of sparkle. Tomorrow the card will go on its journey to Rhonda. Thank you Rhonda for all your and your friends brilliant work. Petra.

Red - White - Black

Jennifer challenged us this week for the One Layer Wednesday challenge: Black and White and Read all over. This colour combination is awesome ... unfortunately the stamping I had in mind was a bit of a challenge in itself .... For quite a while I have one Hero Arts sentiment set where I only used two stamps from so far. All others are still on their original place on the cover. I thought it might be quite nice to leave them as they are, stamp everything on a white card with black ink and and just highlight the relevant message(s) in red ... well, these things are always easier thought than actually done (sigh) .... and five attempts later
I ran out of white card and never realized before that it is so difficult to stamp such big images ... at least for me (LOL) ... a good reason to do some more practicing ..... Petra.

Heavy Metal ...

... and my first encounter with Ultra Thick Embossing powder (lol) and it is all for Susan's OLW challenge: Heavy Metal - use something metallic on a one-layer card. Your metallic element may be an embellishment, metallic embossing powder, metallic ink, or metallic paper.
Ok, guilty - it is not quite a one-layer card but after I positioned my embellishment it just looked dull so unfortuantely it had to be a bit of a two-layer card, sorry ... however, I used metallic embossing powder and some metallic glitter
The metallic element has been embossed 6 times. After it was cooled down I cracked the surface, filled the cracks with black embossing powder, heated it up and stamped into the hot embossed surface with one of my favourite Heindesign stamps which a had slightly inked with black Brilliance ink. I will definitely need to do some more practising because I burnt two cards and embossed my craft table - not quite sure how this happened ...... happy crafting, Petra.

Gratitude

This week's One Layer Wednesday challenge is about gratitude to any mum ... this is for my mum. I love her dearly, sometimes it is really hard that we live so far apart and I cannot visit her as often as I would want to. My mum loves sunflowers, in summer her garden is brimming with lots of sunflower varieties from a lovely bright yellow to a more autumnal rusty colour. It is wonderful. And so is my mum ... Petra.

A Spot of Colour

Susan set the OLW challenge to: B&W with a Spot of Colour ... immediately a special stamp came to my mind - special because it was one which I bought during my first ever visit of a craft fair. It is a Penny Black stamp with five sitting little birdies ... one of them is the odd one out because its tail feathers are pointing into the air

I stamped the little one in light blue onto a scrapling but then couldn't resist to glitter it as well (lol), Petra.

Tree Simplicity

I love trees and think we cannot have enough of them ... and to my delight Susan's OLW challenge features 'Trees' this week.

The tree stamp is from Hobby Art whereby I stamped the image using a tutorial from Susan: Stamping off the Edge ... otherwise the image would have been too big for the mini card. The leafs are coloured with colour pencils and the little flowers are set with Ranger liquid pearls.

This card is also for the Paper Players Challenge: Clean and Simple.

Stamp a Scene

Recently I got a very nice stamp from Germany (Heindesign) showing a landscape which reminds me so much of Southern Germany .... when I saw Susan's new OLW challenge: Stamp a Scene, it seemd to fit perfectly
As soon as I had stamped the scene onto a little white card with speckled edges, I realized that this is a wonderful stamp for Christmas .... so here we are ... bringing my total for this year's Christmas cards to 2 ... (lol). Have a great weekend, Petra.

Unexpected Colours

Having just started to make a 3-tier wedding cake time at the moment is a bit sparse but I couldn't resist to do a little bit of stamping for Susan's real fun challenge ... OLW15: use unexpected colours for holidays and occasions which are normally linked to certain colour schemes like red or pink for Valentine's day. I recently bought some stamps for halloween amongst them some really sweet bats ..... and once I had started I could not really stop myself using sky blue, lime green, spring green, bubbly pink lemonade, purple and sunshine yellow ...

Christmas in July

I cannot believe that Susan has chosen Christmas for this week's theme of the One-Layer Wednesday challenge .... and I can believe even less that I made a card! To my defense I have to say it is only a tiny one and I think I was tempted because the image is so cute (LOL)

and I could not resist to add some glitter - what would Christmas be without it!

Simplicity - Patriotic Cards

Susan really got me here with her OLW challenge: Patriotic Cards because I don't have any patriotic stamps .... so I tried to think outside the box. Coming from Germany and living in England at the moment I started to think what the differences between these two countries are ... I found one very significant one: while in England it is teatime, in Germany it is 'Kaffee und Kuchen' (coffee and cake) in the afternoon. I created two cards to show the two favourite afternoon pastimes of these two countries (LOL)

Simplicity - Flourishes

Another challenging task from Susan for the One-Layer Wednesday card. I really struggled with this one and ended up having seven tries (!): the task is to use a flourish on our card
All stamps are from Lavinia. I have not used them beforehand and still have to practise. The stamps are very fairy-tale like and really sweet. I stamped the images with Tim Holtz Distress and Elzybells Hybrid ink. To give the images a bit more depth I highlighted the swirls surrounding the little houses with a golden gel pen. Petra.

Simplicity - Repetition

What a great challenge set by Susan for the One-Layer Wednesday challenge: repetition. I chose to use one of the stamps I wanted to play with since I've bought it in spring but have not had time to do so till now
The surfer is a tiny but very cute stamp from DeNami Design. I think he looks well cool (LOL). The surfboard is coloured with Koh-i-noor pencils. The Bon Voyage stamp is from Anita's which I struggled to align because the rubber is not correctly aligned on the wooden block .... a nightmare! Petra.

The sentiment and faux embellishment stamps are part of the Creative Expressions 'Vintage Sewing' set, the little heart from the Woodware baby set (LOL). And it is all stamped with Elzybells Hybrid ink. Petra.

Simplicity - Ribbon

Susan's new One-Layer Wednesday challenge is to add a ribbon to a very simple card. I kept it very simple this time, I did not even do any colouring!
The saying is from Impression Obsession stamped with Brilliance ink and framed with a red/white spotty ribbon which I found in my stash. Petra.

Simplicity and Punctuation

No layers ... no embellishments ... this is so difficult! But it is fun to do something so very different, thank you Susan for this One-Layer-Wednesday challenge: use punctuation stamps
I cut a little card from white card using the largest nestability square die. And then ... had problems finding punctuation stamps (lol) ... this is a mix of Penny Black, Studio g and Scrappy Cat stamps, the ink from Heyda. Petra.
